Australian War Memorial Project

Thu, 29 Apr 2010

The Australian War Memorial is one of Australia’s best loved and icnonic buildings.

Recently the Australian War Memorial opened its new $18 million Eastern Precinct, the last phase of a 10 year Site Development Plan.

The landscape design for the Eastern Precinct reinforces the character of open natural landscape in the area leading up to nearby Mount Ainslie and is in contrast to the Memorial’s more formal Western Precinct.

New Eucalypt plantings and replacement of trees lost to drought and site redevelopment have extended the landscape character of Mt Ainslie in to the Memorial site.

An existing coach parking has been replaced with a formal landscape Memorial Courtyard which includes a new memorial to National Service.

A parking area which will be used by hundreds of coaches each year has been moved to the North East of the Memorial and screened by new plantings.
